Rental Only Zoning

A good concept in theroy, not sure how effective it will be. There are many rental apartments in the lower mainland that are old and need repairs which owners are reluctant to perform. This creates poor living options for renters and pushes people to choose to buying a property they can't afford instead. Rental housing is a need in every society as people come and go from every location. It's okay to rent instead of owning. Rental only zones may create neighbourhoods of rental properties which become properties that over a long period are not maintained, leaving the neighbourhood in poor condition. Many home owners disrespect renters thinking they don't care about where they live. My experience is everyone wants a safe comfortable place to live, that they can call home. Municipalites should consider options to help developers redevelop the old buildings into new rental buildings, the rental zones may encourage this developement inturn increasing the quality and quantity of rental properties in the market place.
